1. Number one on our list is AVANTE. Released on April 3, 2026, Avante is currently showing in cinemas nationwide. In this dark romantic psychological thriller, a man named Gaju disguises himself to infiltrate the estate of his father's killer, but ends up falling in love with the killer's daughter. The title is derived from the Spanish word “Avante,” meaning ‘ahead’. Set in postcolonial Nigeria, you’ll be seeing a lot of black and white visuals that add depth to its storytelling. If you’re a fan of psychological thrillers with a touch of romance, this is perfect for you.

2. Number two on the list is THE RETURN OF ARINZO.

This movie was directed by Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo and features popular names like Mercy Aigbe, Funke Akindele, and Bimbo Akintola. It is a drama about a famous actor who returns home with his fiancée to support his father's presidential campaign. The fiancée's arrival uncovers a long-buried scandal that could ruin everything. With such a strong casting lineup, expect drama, complications, and pure entertainment.

3. Up next is LOVE AND NEW NOTES.

This romantic drama premiered on February 13, 2026. Set in 1984 Nigeria, it follows Boma and Chisom as they navigate their relationship amidst currency change. Expect to see a lot of cash flowing, but beyond that, the film offers a unique take on romance by blending love with government policies and their effects. Featuring amazing actors like Timini Egbuson and Eniola Badmus, it delivers both nostalgia and depth. If you're a lover of classic love stories with that vintage feel, this is a must-watch.

4. Number four on the list is MOTHER’S LOVE.

This one stands out as it marks the directorial debut of veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. When Adebisi, the only daughter of a wealthy man from Banana Island, meets Obaro, a young man from the slums of Makoko with a dream to build a food app, their relationship begins to reveal deeper tensions. It explores her strained relationship with her parents, who exert control over her choices. Expect drama, emotion, and a realistic portrayal of Nigerian family dynamics and relationships.

5. Laju Iren’s ONOBIRENjoins this list, gracing the international women’s month with a story that is very women-centered.

The movie follows the story of Roli and her journey from Warri to Lagos; a journey that sets her on the path to purpose and self discovery. Onobiren is showing in cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana.

6. Capping it up is Nollywood’s highest grossing film; Funke Akindele’s BEHIND THE SCENES.

After a highly successful cinema release, Behind the Scenes is finally streaming on Netflix. The movie follows the life of a successful and generous real estate mogul who reaches a breaking point after giving away too much of herself. The cast features an ensemble of award winning actors including Funke Akindele herself, Scarlet Gomez, Tobi Bakre, and lots more.
